Cardiology Services

The Cardiology Services Department at Las Palmas Medical Center offers a state of the art, interdisciplinary approach to cardiovascular care. The Heart Institute was designed with input from physicians, staff, patients and experts in cardiovascular services and houses some of the newest and most innovative technology used for cardiovascular care today. We offer both safety and versatility to our patients and physicians through advanced technology and American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) evidence based guidelines. Our Emergency Department Chest Pain Center is one of the first to be accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers in all of El Paso.

The Cardiology Services Department offers cutting edge cardiovascular technology to include our new Philips Allura Xper FD20 flat panel digital cath lab which is the first cardiovascular system on the market empowered with unique technology, which enables physicians to see the vasculature at up to four-times the resolution of other systems. It also includes StentBoost, which provides a clear view of stent deployment in coronary arteries and allows clinicians to immediately take corrective action, potentially eliminating the need for additional costly procedures.

At The Cardiology Services Department we take critical patient data seriously and that’s why we use Heartlab ENCOMPASS image management system. ENCOMPASS provides network storage and immediate retrieval for critically needed patient exams and enables access to current and past patient exams from an unlimited number of strategically located review stations on the Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare System network. All patient data is managed efficiently and securely with a single patient database.

Some of our other state of the art device technology includes:

  • Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), which provides real-time, high resolution images allowing precise assessment of the vessel diameter, plaque size, and composition of the targeted coronary artery. This critical information helps physicians diagnose and determine the best individualized course of therapy for patients with coronary artery disease.
  • AngioJet ® thrombectomy, which is one of the most advanced catheter-based thrombectomy systems available today. Angiojet® thrombectomy is used to break up a blood clot that is causing partial or full obstruction of blood flow in an artery.
  • SilverHawk Plaque Excision System, which uses a tiny rotating blade to shave away plaque from inside peripheral arteries. Plaque excision has helped alleviate severe leg pain for thousands of patients and has successfully saved the legs of patients from amputation.

The Cardiology Services Department patients can also participate in our Heart Wellness Support Group known as the Circle of Wellness. This free monthly forum is held the second Wednesday of every month at the Las Palmas LifeCare Center at 3333 N. Mesa. The Heart Wellness Support Group provides guest speakers to educate patients and members of our community on improving health, maintaining wellness, and a variety of cardiovascular related topics as well as the opportunity to interact with others who may be dealing with cardiovascular disease. A light, heart-healthy lunch is served at all of our seminars.
